Braille Designs - Jewelry and Accessories:
● My braille designs are made mostly from polymer clay.
● The clay is cut out or pressed into a form (eg: a silver plated cabochon setting) or formed around another object (eg: a metal tin)
● The dots are metal and are pressed into the clay.
● The finished design is readable braille (though it is larger than typical braille) and feels wonderful.
● The clay I use is very strong and flexible.

What is Braille?
● Braille is a system of writing and printing for blind and visually impaired people where various arrangements of raised dots representing letters and numbers are identified by touch.
● The dots are arranged in cells of 6 dots with 3 rows of 2 dots each.
● The image to the left shows the braille alphabet (click it to see a larger image)
● Braille Grade 1:
In braille, grade 1, each possible arrangement of dots within a cell represents only one letter, number, punctuation sign, etc - it is a one-to-one conversion. Individual cells cannot represent words or abbreviations.
● Braille Grade 2: (This is what I use in most of my designs)
In grade 2 braille, many cell combinations have been created to represent
common words. There are part-word contractions and whole-word
contractions, where a single cell represents an entire commonly used word.
